this may be a sensitive issue that is not published. your best way to get the information you want is to conduct primary research such as informal interviews with local and foreign nurses in malaysia.

The best way to overcome a fear is to expose yourself to it. Its called desensitization. You'll get through it if you put forth the energy to.

you should probably drink the blood.....it tastes good....

IF is the blood that makes you anxious, i suggest bringing some rationalization to the situation. Start reading books and articles about blood, and about the normal nursing procedures regarding blood. You can later then star looking at online pictures of these same procedures, and feeling comfortable with the concept. Besides, dont worry :) Many med students feel scared or irrationally dizzy when confronted with this things, but these fade with time. Good luck.

I would say, get familiar with blood like watch some films on surgery or other, but what helped me is I finally realized that blood truly is life giving, not death ,like we see in the movies, associated with murder or accidents. But all of us have to have blood to live!

I saw a child with less fear than me about seeing blood, I was 14 them 6 I was crying over a shot and she looked at me like you are so luckyI felt like a sucker and it made me strong. Visit kids who are sick, see their strength and your fear will subside, and your passion will grow.

Perhaps just the thought of someone peircing the skin with a needle to draw blood makes you queasy. I have known several guys who nearly pass out just from getting a shot much less having blood drawn. This may pass as you are more exposed to it. I used to work for a vet and the first couple surjuries, I observed and necropsies made me feel like I was going to faint. After that as I watched and helped more, I was fine. One time we had a cat who had been caught in a car's fanbelt. Luckily the cat lived but was sutured in so many places he looked like a jigsaw puzzle. The owner brought him back in a few days after surjury because he had torn out the stitches in a few places. She had a weak stomache and could not hold the cat while the vet treated him though she was in the room. I had to. Let me tell you , looking at fresh meat (no blood tho) deep cuts and torn stitches made me want to pass out bad i was so light headed and sick to my stomach! I just kept praying to myself while the vet did his work... Please don't let me faint... over and over til it was done. As soon as possible I ran to the rest room and washed my face in cold water and sat down for a few minutes and then I was fine. After that I could do almost anything with no reaction. I went on to work in later years for Animal Control and you see some pretty terrible things from animal cruelty cases to badly injured strays hit by cars, Many heart breaking things. But you get used to it . You don't ever get used to the emotions you feel but you become a professional doing a job no matter how bad it is just be cause of the repetition of the same circumstances over and over. I am sure EMT's go through a beginners stage too where their first few really bad cases make them sick. it is normal for many people and most overcome it. Good luck dear.
