You need a four year degree to get a work visa. You need to graduate from a Japanese school. And the chances of a non Japanese male being hired as a nurse are slim to none.

People in this forum will tell you repeatedly "you need a four-year degree" and "Japanese never hire foreigners to do anything except teach English." This is crap. Utter crap. My evidence? 900,000 ZAINICHI KOREANS IN JAPAN CAN'T ALL BE TEACHING ENGLISH! The four-year degree "requirement" is slightly more true, though there are a few ways you can work in Japan without it (like having many years of verifiable experience in the field). However, if you're going to become a nurse, I think you'll need a degree of some type (that's how it is in my country). I'd actually say that if you learn fluent Japanese, your chances of becoming a nurse are VERY good. You know why? Because Japan has a HUGE dependency ratio and a rapidly aging population. In some parts of Japan, 1/3 of the population is elderly, already! They're going to need more nurses than they currently have! The birth rate in Japan is so low, new nurses aren't being born at the rate necessary to sustain the elderly population. Even if Japan hates foreigners, they have no choice -- SOMEBODY has to do the nursing. I believe Japan is already importing nurses from the Philippines, so why not Malaysia? You should have a nursing credential in your home counry, preferably a nursing credential in Japan (attend Japanese uni if possible), and speak fluent Japanese (at least JLPT Level 1, preferably higher than the JLPT exams go). If you do those things, I think you have a reasonable shot. Some people on Yahoo! Answers (mostly English teachers) just can't think outside the eikaiwa box, which is sad for them. @alex_in What you say is true of a few Zainichi Koreans, but the vast majority immigrated to Japan AFTER 1945. It is a widely-held Korean nationalist misconception that most of the Zainichi Koreans today are descendants of "conscripted slave labor," but actually if you look at the statistics, they are only a small percentage of the Zainichi Koreans still there. Almost all the Zainichi Koreans I know are either first-generation or second-generation, not third or fourth. They found work in Japan that wasn't English teaching. Why can't the asker?

About ZAINICHI KOREANS.... In 1910, Japan colonized Korean Peninsula, and continued to do so until Japan was defeated in WW II. (Don't ask me or blame me on any political issues, nor start any political discussions. I am just reporting the sad historical fact.) Between these years, many Koreans moved to Japan or sometimes forced to move to Japan to work at weapons factories. After WW II, some of them didn't return to their homeland. They were given permanent residency to stay in Japan. The same goes to Taiwanese. Current Zainichi Koreans are these people and the descendants of these people. Some of children of Zainichi Korean may attend Korean schools in Japan which teach Korean language in addition to Japanese school carriculum, but many attended regular Japanese grade schools. Most attend Japanese universities if they ever advance to that level. So, the 2nd generation Zainichi Korean and younger are educated in Japanese school systems. They are legally the permanent residents of Japan when they are born. They are a kind of the victims of WW II war who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. As for the nursing position in Japan, you need to pass the national exam for nurse license. To pass that exam, it is most likely to be required to atten a Japanese nurse school. Currently, Japan has an agreement with Philippins to invite Filipino people, who passed her/his country's nurse exam, to Japan, study Japanese language while working as an assistant in a hospital, and study for the Japanese nurse exam. If he/she passes the exam, a visa is renewed for 3 years. There's no limit for the number of renewals of visa. So, theoretically, he/she can stay in Japan permanently. Currently, the Philippins is the only country which has such an agreement with Japan. Can you move to Philippins?

To become a nurse in Japan, you need to have a nurse license of Japan. To get its license, you need to go to 2-4 year nursing school and take a national exam, pass it. It's difficult because you need to start from elementary level Japanese. Another option is, as another says, Japan is inviting nurses from Philippines and Indonesia. So you may find a way to become one of those although you are in Malaysia.

salary in malaysia are below suck..... do u agree?
especially if u r a government servant..no wonder police always accept bribes,after working more than 23 years as a techer with a diploma my mom salary is still merely 2+++,working as a clerk with endless workload maby get u 900 bucks(minus epf =750),working at kfc or mcd get u few buck enough just to pay ur rental room and ur foods and to buy ur montly train travel ticket,fresh grad pay around 1500.do u think its enough?i dont think these people can even afford to go to clinic if they fall sick......or pay for medical expenses if they got sick and not covered by insurance or company panel clinic.i'd rather die than to go to the general hospital.with its massive crowds and the super snobbish nurses.Seriously,malaysian deserve to have pay raise especially with the high living cost nowadays.see the gulf countries.they give pay fairly .see how rich the arabs and how comfortable their life that hordes of them floods the malaysian streets every summer with their entourage. if i were a politician in the dewan negara i would absolutely suggest the minimum salary to be set at 6 or 7 ringgit per hour..... chicken,dont be offended,im talking based on my experience,i just went to kl gh a week ago,to accompany a friend of mine ,and i'm nearly slap a face of a rude young female nurse coz she was screaming at me .she was like : you guys dont know how to wait outside?(yelling with her sour face).If i tell the truth...is that call insulting?i know millions of people have the same opinion with me,government hospital service can be irritating anyway chicken....teaching is not a 9-5 job...teachers merely work from 8-1,but their workload are so much that they sacrifice their times with their own family as part of their commitment and what shall we do?no chicken we shouldnt leave the country,but instead we should fight for our right!its not fair that ur boss spending lots of money for his business class expenses,for his refreshment with clients at big hotels,his golf game,his car feul,his phone bills,casual lunch for company superior at hotels ,and yet....they pay u a meager i know many people out there making side income source,like having 2 jobs,direct selling,selling this and that,freelancing ,swiss cash,forex and whatever s*** some even sell at pasar malam ......its a pity that our malaysian have to go through this to cope with the increasing living standard,the rich become more rich and the poor become poorer,bosses got all sort of privilleges and workers dying working to build the company profile

Well, when I went back to Malaysia 2 years ago, I was absolutely in shock at how much RM1 can get you and it got you very little. I went to Starbucks and already a cup of coffee cost RM10+. That's coffee folks. For me it was no problem because I am making money in US Dollars & I figured if I was making RM25,000+ a month, I would be pretty well off in Malaysia (if only I could find that job in Malaysia). But seriously for the locals, it must really be difficult to live in Malaysia if you make less than RM5000. Money value is so small nowand if you live and work in Kuala Lumpur, its a struggle as even food cost a lot more.

Yes. The salary in Malaysia is currently very low compared to other progressive countries. However, the prices of goods in Malaysia is considered cheaper than many other progressive countries. In my opinion, Malaysia government is able to increase the salary of their workers equivalent to other nations if they could get rid of corruption totally. Corruption give a very serious impact on government revenue. as such, government do not have sufficient funds to develop the country. Moreover to pay their workers with fat salary. The Malaysian people should have consorted effort to fight corruption and should avoid being self centred. They should think of helping the government to achieve their goals for the benefit of the nation and its people. Otherwise, nothing will change and the people will become poorer and poorer. If U want to progress, U have to look at things at a bigger perspective not only at yourself.

So what shall we do? Leave the country? You need to learn to live with it. If u need a better pay, get a job with higher responsibilities and risk. Life might be stressful but it fulfills your criteria for a better pay. Not a 9-5 teaching job. Try not insulting the government hospitals. It is a place where many lives have been saved and serves the society, just like the school. You rather die than going to government hospital?? uhuh, what about the rest of Malaysians who are depending on government hospital? you advising them to die rather than seeking for medical treatments? And the snobbish nurses that you were insulting have most probably done million noble deeds. What you did mentioned was only some extreme cases which I still can agree with you.actually for fresh grad, basically the pay is around 1800-2500MYR/m.Some might get below and some might lucky to get >2500.For me,I'm fresh grad and currently attach to a Dutch company operating here as a reprersentative office for asia pac.I earn 3000/m.My friend's basic sdalary is 1500/m,buttt he frequently go to offshore, and after add up with his travel allowances++, average he could earn up to 5k monthly.It just the matter of luck.But overall,I agree with you,the average salary here in Malaysia is suck.

Too many public servants, don't work also get pay at the month, why so hardworking, work never end lah..... If you want fast service pay under the table loh or else wait loh! Reduce the manpower, improve the efficiency, don't suka suka pocket money, then will be enough to pay the good guys

The UK, US, France, Sweden, the Netherlands, etc, are all absolutely full of immigrants, and in the case of the UK and the Netherlands completely over-populated. To suggest that immigration needs to be more controlled leaves you open to all sorts of accusations of being a racist or a bigot in rich white countries. On the other hand, rich Asian countries like Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and perhaps Malaysia have notoriously tough immigration policies, it's nowhere as easy to immigrate to those countries as it is rich white countries. The governments only want highly educated, already wealthy immigrants. You get absolutely no hand-outs in those countries and to get citizenship is ridiculously difficult, in the case of Japan in most cases you have to be part Japanese to stand a chance. Japan takes a few low-paid Filipino nurses but they almost always go home after a few years when their visa runs out, they never get permanent residence. Yet no one calls these countries racist or bigoted for this? If rich white countries treated immigrants like this we'd be called racist and selfish, yet the world leaves these countries free to treat people how they like. In those countries you can't be considered a part of that country unless you are racially from that country, in the West that is considered an extremely racist attitude. The Japanese and Chinese were colonialists too so don't pull that crap.

The US does not belong to white people. They can't just shut off the continent from people of other races. When Japan occupied the Philippines in WWII, hundreds of thousands of Filipinos flocked to Japan and there is a substantial population of Filipinos in Japan to this day The Muslim state of Xinjiang and the Buddhist state of Tibet belong to China, as a result, the Chinese also have millions of Muslims and Tibetans in their country. Japan and China are not as homogenous as you think they are. Furthermore, Europe colonized North America, South America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Therefore you would expect much much more multiculturalism in Europe compared to Japan or China Here's a perfect example for you How many African countries speak Chinese or Japanese? None. How many African countries speak French, English, Portuguese, Spanish? A lot. Where will many of these Africans therefore immigrate to if they wanted to leave Africa? France, UK, Portugal, Spain etc etc That's the price Europe paid for colonizing

They want to preserve their national culture and ethnic heritage much like the U.S.A. did before the disastrous 1965 Immigration Reform Bill. Also it helps that their governments are not filled with elements that don't consider themselves Japanese but rather a distinct ethnic group that would feel safer living in a multicultural Japan, China, Singapore, etc. Thus they can resist multicultural American propaganda.
